Therapist, JD, MSW, LCSW (she/her)

Meet Beth. Beth Burkstrand-Reid works with individuals and couples to manage anxiety, mood disorders, and life transitions. Beth’s style is compassionate, direct, and solution-oriented, peppered with plenty of humor. Clients working with Beth not only talk about their problems, they leave sessions with a workable plan for how to use what they’ve learned in therapy in their daily lives.

Individual therapy with Beth may be short-term, targeted at addressing a particular concern, or longer-term, aiming to develop deeper insight into patterns from the past that are influencing the present. She works with clients to reduce stress, navigate family and work challenges, or manage mental health diagnoses.

As a former reproductive rights lawyer and law professor, Beth particularly enjoys helping women move through major life transitions, such as pregnancy, parenting, and menopause, with confidence. She is honored to provide support to women who are making significant reproductive health-related decisions.

Couples therapy with Beth can help prevent or address relationship challenges. It may benefit couples wanting to proactively plan for coming changes or just preserve fun and intimacy. It also benefits couples when conflict is no longer productive, laughter is increasingly rare, or resentment is building.

Beth often uses the Gottman Method and Solution-Focused Therapy in couple’s work.

Beth enjoys working with other helping professionals and often serves as a therapist for other therapists. She is an instructor in the University of Southern Maine Master of Social Work program where she teaches advanced clinical skills courses. Outside of work, Beth is an avid women’s college hockey fan. She has been married to her college sweetheart for almost 30 years and has two daughters. She is licensed in Maine (LCSW) and Nebraska (LICSW)

Beth joins Fynbos in November 2026 and is currently scheduling clients to begin at that time.
